The Village in Burns Harbor, has been recognized as the first national “Green” development under the American National Standard Institute standards used by the National Home Builders Association. The Village received “Three Star” certification from the NAHB Research Center, the third-party certification provider for NAHB Green, the NAHB National Green Building Program.
The 60-acre parcel was developed from unused farmland and old commercial development in the town of Burns Harbor. The developer T. Clifford Fleming, home builders, residents and others involved in the community all worked toward meeting the standards and respecting the environmentally sensitive areas and maintaining the present natural wild and plant life native to the area. The work-in-progress neighborhood is focused on Low Impact Development standards and plans are in place to educate residents on maintaining environmentally sensitive areas and LID storm water management techniques.
In line with the recent certification, The Village has been selected to host the 2009 Green Homes on Parade. This project will yield 5-6 newly constructed, Green Certified homes. This Parade of Green Homes will be the 1st of its kind, in the United States. The homes will all be Green Certified at silver or above, and cost between $180,000 and $250,000. The builders for this Parade include: Pickering Homes, Treasure Homes, The Given Group, Village Builders, and Accent Homes.
Be sure to attend the Parade September 18th-27th!
